Canine Hanna Somatics (CHS) is a gentle method of neuroscience-based movement education that works with a dogs natural tendency to PANDICULATE.

Each CHS course or workshop begins with an introduction to the principles & theory of Canine Hanna Somatics; then we will guide you and your dog through the CHS procedures.

⚠️ This course does NOT qualify or authorize you to offer CHS as a professional service - this is an introductory course, and also a prerequisite to qualifying for enrollment in our 2-year Equine & Canine Hanna Somatics Practitioner Certification and Training program. :)

Here's what it looks like when dogs PANDICULATE spontaneously:

Most people think these are just cute stretches - but pandiculation is actually a powerful natural reflex that helps dogs (and horses and people) dial down their chronic muscle tension so they can access their full range-of-motion again and enjoy activities with less pain and more joy!

THE PROBLEM:

Chronic tension is a natural adaptive response to stress, trauma and repetitive motion. Manual therapy, stretching and strengthening or conscious efforts at controlling posture or 'relaxing' do not address the centrally controlled 🧠 nervous system complexities underlying muscle tone...(Cacciatore et al. 2024)

HANNA SOMATICS DOES.

By tapping directly into a dog's Pandicular Response. When you do CHS with your dog, you are working directly WITH the dogs brain, instead of working ON their body... so even though it looks a lot like it, CHS isn't actually bodywork, but is an educational and experiential process that we facilitate for the dog.
